Junction Bridge - a photo on Flickriver

Junction Bridge

            Junction Bridge (208) with Junction House both built c1774. The latter was probably a warehouse at one time and also has been occupied by engineers and millwrights. It operated as lodgings for boatmen and as a toll office in the first half of the 19th Century. In the past this was the junction on the Leeds-Liverpool with the Bradford Canal, all that remains today is a 30m stretch off to the left of the photo. (The Bradford Canal had problems with water supply and closed in 1867, a stretch reopened but was unprofitable and closed in 1922). Although Junction Bridge is Grade II listed incredibly Junction House is unlisted and looks in bad shape.
