Root Boy Slim - a photo on Flickriver

Root Boy Slim

            The infamous Root Boy Slim and the Sex Change Band w/the Rootettes (c1979). Slim later put together various incarnations such as New Hope for the Criminally Insane and Capital Offense. I lived in Bethesda, back in the day, where Slim also lived, and I'd go to just about all his shows around town and finally got to know him. I made a music video for a local D.C. band that has Slim in it wearing his trademark 7-Eleven clerk's shirt. (I need to post that on YouTube someday.) 

Slim was a character to say the least. His apartment was a true crash pad. I wish I had pictures of that place (same building that WHFS was in across from the Psychedelly). Anyway many of D.C.'s finest musicians played in Slim's bands: The Rev. Billy C. Wirtz (who I went to H.S. with), Tom Lepson, Ron Hollaway, Deanna Bogart, Ernie Lancaster and many many more. Boogie 'Til You Puke!
