In der Vorhalle des Orkus - a photo on Flickriver

Östlich von Zwitte (Svitava) in Nordböhmen befindet sich die "Wüste Kirche" bzw. "Zigeunerhöhle" (Pustý kostel), deren Weitungen durch den Abbau von Sand für den Betrieb von Spiegelschleifereien entstanden. Ein alter Bericht von 1922 berichtete über die Höhle:

"Der Besucher glaubt in einer Vorhalle des Orkus zu sein, wenn man vom freien Tageslicht in diese Sandsteingewölbe tritt, wo dem Eintretenden erst nach einigem Verweilen, bis sich die Pupille hinreichend erweitert hat, die Einzelheiten und schauervolle Tiefe dieser sehenswerten Katakomben deutlicher werden. Ohne Fackelschein darf sich niemand in die weitsichtigen Tiefen dieser Irrgänge wagen."
