Exposition d’Hanoï. 1902. Palais central construit sans fondation suffisante près d’une mare. S’enfonce en terre. Doit servir de musée si on réussit à le sauver.

The turn of the 20th century displayed a great fad for “Universal fairs” or expos. The Eiffel tower was constructed for the 1889 World fair. And meant to be destroyed at the end of the fair! This particular Fair in Hanoï in 1902 diplayed all the proud possessions of French Indochina and invited Asian countries. The architecture is similar to the Grand Palais in Paris. Though the author mocks the construction without sufficient foundations!

Cuộc đấu xảo (hội chợ triển lãm) mở cửa từ tháng 11 năm 1902 đến tháng 1 năm 1903. Do Toàn quyền Paul Doumer yêu cầu tổ chức, nhằm vinh danh chính sách của ông về các công trình công cộng to lớn và việc hiện đại hoá Đông Dương mà ông đã theo đuổi trong bốn năm. Người tổ chức cuộc đấu xảo đã trở về Pháp, và cuộc đấu xảo đã không có được vinh quang như mong đợi.

The exhibition opened November 1902 to January 1903. Requested by Paul Doumer, it was to glorify his policy of public works and modernization of Indochina followed for 4 years. Its organizer having moved back to France, the exhibition did not have the expected glory.

L'exposition ouvrit ses portes de novembre 1902 à janvier 1903. Voulue par Paul Doumer, elle devait glorifier sa politique des grands travaux et de modernisation de l'Indochine suivie pendant 4 années. Son concepteur ayant rejoint la France, l'exposition n'eut pas la gloire escomptée.
