" A Tale from Schooldays long ago " - a photo on Flickriver

This lovely old schoolhouse is situated between the Avonmore river and the edge of a wood in the townland of Clara Vale, Co. Wicklow. It was built in the 1930 and is now used as a community centre.
The story, is about a couple who met when they went to school together. Its a work of fiction Im afraid and its just something thats been running through my mind for a long time.I was just waiting for the right photo and I think this is it.
Ive borrowed a bit of Marys response from a poem I heard somewhere though Im not quite certain where.

Jem; " Do you remember the day, Mary, all those years ago when we first met at school! I suppose I was about 11 and you couldnt have been more than nine. Do you remember?

Mary; " Do I remember Jem? Will I ever forget "

" Well I thought you were lovely with your hair in pigtails and your smiling freckeled face and your little turned up nose. Sure you were only gorgeous. Do you remember Mary?

" Do I remember Jem? Will I ever forget "

" And when Miss O Sullivan, the schoolteacher caugh me messing about with the other boys, she put me sitting with the girls as punishment.I sat beside you and I didnt even mind having to do needle work though I couldnt let on as the others would have jeered me for a month! And didnt we become the best of friends. Do you remember Mary? "

" Do I remember Jem? Will I ever forget! "

" How long ago is it since that first day Mary and its funny but I cant really remember when we started courting. We just kind of grew on one another. Aha sure it was meant to be. The children have flown the nest now and the grand children are up and gone too and now theres just you and me still together, just like we were at the start all those years past.
And to me, you are still as lovely as you were then
and sure thats how you will always be to me as long as Ive got breath left in me. And do you still love me Mary, for I love you lots! Now come here and give us a bit of a kiss "

" Jem, will you sit down there and behave yourself!! A man of your age should know better. Now go read your newspaper and get them silly notions out of your head! Wherever do you get your ideas from! I dont know what comes over you sometimes! Anyway, what would you like me to make for your tea? "

This in a way paints a picture of my own Mother and Fathers realationship. My Dad was a very romantic man and often he would grab my mother around the waist and try to kiss her. She would push him away and tell him to behave and look across at us children and smile and roll her eyes to heaven. Looking back now, I know she did that because she was probably embarassed in front of us and they were different times.Maybe it was just a bit of an act between them. Every morning though, Dad would come in to us in the sitting room before going out to work and give us a kiss and a cuddle. He would then go into the kitchen to my Mum and close the door half over to block our view and there would be silence for a minute before he would go out the back door and shout goodbye to us. So they had there moments. I think thats lovely and its stayed with me all the years.
I think it was a much simpler and very innocent time in many ways, but hard enough for a lot of families but of course we didnt know any of that really and I do know how lucky I was to have such an amazing carefree childhood and fantastic loving parents and we all turned out ok. Apart from me probably!!! Lol!
But wouldnt it be nice to be able to slip back there just one more time, especially at Christmas and just stand and watch the wonderful lovely gentleness of it all from over 60 years ago.
I better stop now before I start getting maudling so a big hug and a Happy Christmas to everybody, close by or way accross the miles as we are all so very much together in thought and spirit and thats what really matters!
