Lake Michigan Lightning - a photo on Flickriver

            Lightning from an approaching storm reaches down to the surface of Lake Michigan near the lighthouses on the pier at Grand Haven State Park in Grand Haven, Michigan.

There was a large severe weather outbreak in the Great Lakes region on Wednesday. For only the third time in the past dozen years there has been a "High Risk" for severe weather. 

There were so many stormchasers in the areas of the worst of the weather, so my brother and I headed to the lakeshore just to get some photos of the storms coming across the lake.

Grand Haven State Park looked pretty good, as the storms were passing to the north and south of our position, so we weren't going to get hit directly. In fact, the there was hardly any rain until around 10.00pm, when a storm came right over us. We got soaked getting to the car, but weren't in any danger. 

(Note: I've been chasing storms since the mid 1980's, so I'm fairly confident that I know what I'm doing. No one should do storm chasing for the "heck of it". It's dangerous, even for the real storm chasers.)
