This weapon features the M115 8 inch Howitzer which traces its lineage to the M1 weapon developed by the Westerveldt Board. The same chassis was utilized by the 175 mm SP M107; thus barrels are interchangeable (as demonstrated by the Israeli Army). It is a proven and popular artillery asset, used by many NATO armies and has nuclear capability. Improved models M110A1 and M110A2 have increased range and hitting power. Stability is ensured by the huge hydraulically powered spade. This weapon began to be withdrawn from active army service in 1993. It has earned a reputation as the most accurate cannon system in the army inventory.
