Klipspringer

            The klipspringer (Oreotragus oreotragus) is a small species of African antelope. 
This antelope lives in eastern and southern Africa on rocky cliffs in mountains, hills and along rivers, but also in woodland and savanna. The klipspringer ('rock jumper' in Afrikaans and Dutch) walks on the tips of its hooves and can race and jump across rocky terrain. 
The head-body length is 75 - 115 cm. Reaching approximately 58 cm at the shoulder, klipspringers are relatively small animals compared to some of their larger antelope cousins. The coat varies in colour from yellow-brown to grey-yellow, with whitish underparts, chin and lips . Male klipspringers have horns that are usually about 7–15 cm. Female klipspringers in Eastern African populations also have horns. 
Klipspringers are herbivores, eating plants that grow in mountainous habitats and rocky terrain.
It is preyed upon by leopards, caracals and eagles.

De klipspringer (Oreotragus oreotragus) is een kleine Afrikaanse antilope. Deze antilope leeft voornamelijk in rotsachtige streken. Het zijn uitstekende klimmers en springers, die zich lenig en snel over slecht begaanbaar rotsachtig terrein kunnen bewegen. Klipspringers komen voor in zuidelijk en oostelijk Afrika, van Zuid-Afrika, Namibië en Angola tot het Ethiopisch Hoogland en Noord-Somalië.
De klipspringer is een kleine, gedrongen antilope met een kort staartje. Als enige antilope loopt hij op de toppen van zijn kleine zwarte hoefjes, een aanpassing aan het leven in meer steile rotsgebieden. De korte, stevige poten staan meestal dicht bij elkaar. Hij heeft een dichte, broze en ruwe vacht, die een ritselend geluid maakt als deze wordt geschud. De vachtkleur verschilt per regio en per individu, maar is meestal zandkleurig tot olijfgeel en grijs gespikkeld, en een witte onderzijde. 
Het mannetje heeft korte, rechtopstaande, spitse hoorns, die aan de basis geringd zijn. De hoorns hebben meestal een lengte 7 tot 15 cm. De klipspringer wordt 75 tot 115 cm lang en 8 tot 18 kg zwaar. De schofthoogte is 43 tot 60 cm. De staart wordt 5 tot 13 cm lang.
De klipspringer leeft voornamelijk van kruiden en de bladeren en scheuten van laaggroeiende vegetatie, als struiken, succulenten en kruipplanten, aangevuld met knoppen, twijgen, bessen, vruchten en schors. In het natte seizoen eet hij voornamelijk groene grassen. Vocht nemen ze op uit dauw.
