Old Kilcullen sunset - a photo on Flickriver

            Taken last Saturday - a typical late winter sunset - although St Brigid has supposedly brought the spring. This was a 5 shot blended exposure from a 7D with 17-40F4L and then processed. I see there is a little glow around the tower which the jpeg manages to accentuate - its pretty unnoticeable in the tiff of the blend. I need to get back to this place for dawn - particularly at this time of year as the sun rises in the southeast - the mountains are across the plains to the southeast and I think it must make an awesome sight. 

This place, known locally as old Kilcullen is a very historical place. Is been there since at least the 5th century, athough the tower is probably later. When you get there you see why - it commands a view over a huge area, and offers a massive viewpoint for protection for many miles around. It even has the feel of someplace special when you are there - hard not to think about the years of events it has seen and lived through. St. Patrick, island of saints and scholars, vikings, normans, english, 1798, wars, troubles, good times and bad.

Interesting place.
