Home From The Pennsylvania Coal Mine

            This photo has been selected to be part of the World War II Memorial in Pittsburgh, Pa.

Photo by Nicholas Rellich of his brother Morse.  Early 1940's as indicated by newspaper headline reading "Rommel Troops."  Morse likely worked at National Mine in Cuddy, PA, outside of Bridgeville.  Nicholas, Morse and brother Rudy served in the U.S. military during World War II.  Nicholas was in the Field Artillery, and carried a bazooka and and a radio.  He was wounded at Sainte Mere Eglise in Normandy, and received the Purple Heart medal. Sainte Mere Eglise was the first French town liberated by the Allies after the Normandy invasion.
