This particular hole in the tree has seen many residents occupying it over the years. Back in 2014, I saw a Downy woodpecker nesting there. Then in 2015 the woodpecker was evicted by a Starling pair. The same continued in 2016. And now this year a pair of Northern Flicker is trying to claim the spot. However, I have seen a Starling sitting on a branch not too far and keeping an eye on the nesting hole. Only time will tell who will win the right to nest here.
