136. Ronald Reagan Cigar Humidor & Golf Putting Green

I love golf and wanted to upload various designs for quite a while.

Although Ronald Reagan did not really smoke cigars, the Casa Blanca White House brand (or better yet some inexpensive Cubans with a floral herbal bouquet) would suffice for golf buddies as Reagan's style was always subtle, personal, based on flattery, and not easily apparent. Just as that of a well prepared film actor. 

Reagan's sweet tooth is given a nostalgic moment with a gridded compartment of boxes of Penfold Hearts golf balls, a reference to 007's golf ball of choice in "From Russia with Love", which is an apt title for the Reagan administration. The Penfold boxes are filled with a selection of candies from Russia, commemorating Reagan's foreign policy accomplishments there.

The humidor also serves as a portable putting green for the President. The putter is aligned by miniature brass stands and a velvet roped walkway with a red carpet of simulated grass as the putting surface, recalling every President's traditional walk up to Marine One for restful getaways at Camp David. 

The humidor enclosure resembles a kind of modern Camp David bungalow. It is veneered with actual wooden planks from the Reagan-era White House. A small detail of miniature trees surrounds the steeply angled rear of this bungalow. This is meant to attract the golfer's view, to simulate the traps of a fairway and to represent the edge of an imaginary forest, a usual golf course feature. Inside the humidor enclosure golf balls are guided and returned via a series of circular ramps. The mechanism (only very sketchy details, I'll admit) is battery powered due to the tiny space. 

The metaphor of the Marine One transport for golf putting is particularly apt when one considers that both systems involve precision, accuracy and timing; something only modern US Presidents readily appreciate. 

I'm a fan of the freehand sketch but in this instance the long lines of this structure really need the T-square and scale.
