Here's one from our cold spell last week. I wasn't the only one out there. I ran into none other than the famous Zeb Andrews while making the manditory stop at Multnomah Falls. I did take a requisite shot at Multnomah, but since it is so well photographed, I'll spare you another re-hash.

Several of my recent posts have touched on the topic of predicting what shots people will find interesting. It seems an impossible task to predict. A buddy of mine passed along a short video, which I thought I would share, that offers one seemingly unconventional perspective into this perplexing problem. For those who have never heard of TED Talks before, they are a series of short lectures relating to technology, science, and/or entertainment where speakers are challenged to give the talk of their lives in 18 minutes or less. The following lecture, Denis Dutton: A Darwinian Theory of Beauty, offers a theory on human perception of beauty with evolutionary origins. In it, he'll even go so far as to state what kinds of elements in a landscape scene will appeal universally across all cultures and backgrounds. I found his comment about trees, specifically which kinds of trees are appealing, particularly interesting. It might just explain why that Japanese Garden maple is always popular. The animations are cool too. Check it out!
