Phyllostachys atrovaginata 'Green Perfume'

This species is an exceptional member of the Phyllostachys group. Phyllostachys atrovaginata ‘Green Perfume’ is very useful in landscape settings where the substantial look of a large bamboo with straight and upright culms is desired. It is popularly known as "Incense Bamboo" since the surface of the culm gives off a fragrance of sandalwood when scratched.
It can tolerate wet soils better than most Phyllostachys. Air channels in the rhizome system of this species allow for the absorption of oxygen in boggy soils or soils with poor drainage. It is often called a water bamboo, though strictly speaking it is not a water plant.  It is highly suited for planting along ponds and streams. It is also useful as an evergreen hedge or privacy screen. This is a fast growing running bamboo and the use of rhizome barriers is strongly advised. 
• Height : 4 - 6 m with culm diameter of 4-5 cm.
• Hardiness: very hardy
• Sun and half shadow
• Application: as specimen, for hedges and screens. Grows along ponds and boggy soils.
