Despite a nightmare travel experience (4:30 am, suspicious cheese+raw venison in checked baggage, flight delay, running across O'hare in 4 minutes, sitting on the runway 1.5 hours) I did make it back from WI to Rachel's family's Thanksgiving, as I have the past several years. It's always a blast and they make me feel welcome  - and next year we'll officially be a married couple there :)

This was a great chance to play with my relatively new 50mm f/1.8, and it really shines for stuff like this. Although the focal length isn't truly 50mm (1.6 crop factor, so it works out closer to 75mm) I've grown used to the length and think it really has made me grow as a photographer. Concentrating on details, rather than trying to capture an entire scene with my wideangle, has also improved the quality of my photographs and my eye - and the fast aperture is a blast indoors, no flash needed!
