"Big Country" - a photo on Flickriver

"Big Country"

Inspired title from the song "In a Big Country" by Big Country. This is one of the few images captured on Sunday's 24 hour road trip from Whitley Bay to Longtown, in Cumbria to then Glencoe and onto Neist Point on the Isle of Skye and then back home!

Yes "The Jolly Boys Outing ~ Part Deux" was on the road again in the Jolly Boy's Tour Bus that is Martin's Steeles trusty Ford Mondeo! Which, sadly, picks up more knocking noises when us boys load in, okay when my camera bag goes into the boot! LOL!

We had more bags than the bag shop, and Mick had packed more Rockets than North Korea have! Our plan was to light up the Fairy Pools on Skye with some night time light painting, but the constant rain put paid to our night time fun! Oh and the snow and the sleet and the wind, and did I mention the rain?!

So the call went out that as soon as the rain or snow stopped Martin was to pull over and we would jump out and shoot whatever was in our eyeline! With our cameras not with North Korean rockets! Anyhow this place was where people pull over and pile up stones by the roadside, can I just say I did accidentally knock someone's pile over with me camera bag! I do apologise if it was yours! So as it started to snow, again, we took shelter under our umbrellas, well I had to borrow Martin's spare one as mine was too embarrassing with it's broken arms etc!!

Luckily for me, Mick suggested I try me Sigma 70-200mm out, which I had brought for shooting Stags with! It was a master stroke as I was able to focus on this little section of the Cairns, if you know the name of the location let us know - all I remember is it's on the side of the road that takes you from Glencoe to Fort William. After a while everywhere looked the same - maybe that was due to the rain and snow! But all in all it was a fabulous journey!

Huge thank you to Scott who meet us at 7.30am at Glencoe and offered us shelter in his awesome VW T5 Campervan and a hot cup of coffee and biscuits! Such awesome hospitality, and not forgetting he had driven down from Fort William to welcome us to Glencoe!

Thank you as always to Martin Steele and the Fun Bus for doing all the hardwork, whilst we slept, and whilst Mick Ridley snored! Huge thanks to Dave Brightwell and Mick too for hours of great company! We are looking forward to "Part Tois" of our tours of Scotland already!!
