Urban Chicken - Austin Funky Chicken Coop Tour - April 2011

In earlier times, many people kept gardens, chickens and other animals in their yards in a sustainable ecosystem. Supermarkets and ready availability of such products through mass production did away with much of this. The growing sustainable and 'slow' and local food movements are raising awareness of the benefits of returning to the old ways.

The Austin Funky Chicken Coop Tour, now in its third year, gives the public a chance to view urban chicken coops and learn from the proponents the benefits and how-tos of keeping chickens in an urban/suburban setting.
