Dragon - a photo on Flickriver

Dragon

            One of a sequence of windows in the north aisle at Knowle, dating from the 1900s and the work of prolific London firm Heaton, Butler & Bayne.

Here St George battles the dragon, in an unusual composition that almost gives the dragon equal prominence for a change with him taking up one light of the window all to himself!

This does seem a more logical way to depict the struggle and represent the saints heroism (rather than the usual diminutive writhing serpent being crushed under foot, who generally invokes more pity than fear!) 

Personally I would have still made the dragon bigger and more menacing, firstly to suggest the saint's victory in the face of difficult odds (more 50/50 than the usual walkover one sees) and secondly it's a great subject to let rip with artistic license!
