The Deptford corridor - a photo on Flickriver

This strange corridor, with its white walls and pretty blue light, is a temporary passageway leading to the River Thames from the corner of Watergate Street and Borthwick Street, near the River Thames in Deptford, because of the construction work at Paynes & Borthwick Wharf, where United House Developments and the private equity firm JER Partners are building a £120 million riverside development, which "will provide 257 high specification 1, 2 and 3 bedroom apartments and 10 live/work units in a landscaped setting looking towards Canary Wharf, Greenwich and the City." At the end of the passageway -- at low tide -- is a stretch of shoreline, and an old pier, in front of the abandoned Convoys Wharf site, where developers have spent the last ten years hoping to recreate Dubai on the site of what was Henry VIII's Royal Dockyard, established in 1513 -- so far, I'm delighted to report, without success.
