There was security everywhere in Beijing. Whether it was because of the recent Tibet protests, or in preparation for the Olympics or a hangover of the communist era – you were being watched. It was strange to always have someone in uniform around, standing absolutely still (but watching at the same time).

These guards in their crisp uniforms and razor sharp stares added a lot of character to the city.
