Malecon de Funchal.

            Malecon de Funchal, paseo que rodea a la ciudad de Funchal (Isla de Madeira-Portugal).

Los descubridores llamaron Funchal a la capital de Madeira porque la zona olía mucho al perfume dulzón regaliz de la hierba salvaje de hinojo, o "funcho" como se llama en portugués. Funchal hace alarde de muchas atracciones para el turista, entre ellos notables hoteles e instalaciones deportivas y de ocio. La ciudad es también rica en cultura con la Sé, la primera catedral de Portugal en ultramar y muchos otros destacados museos. 

El muelle en forma de herradura de Funchal invita a una visita, especialmente al punto más extremo oeste. Pasando por una antigua fortaleza, se llega al rompeolas artificial o "pontinha". El punto más extremo del muelle, que sobresale justo del centro de la ciudad y se extiende hasta el puerto, es también un lugar para dominar toda la bahía,  y las casas característicamente pintadas. El puerto es también el centro de restaurantes y bares.

   The discoverers called Funchal to the capital of Madeira because the zone smelled much to the regaliz perfume dulzón of the wild grass of hinojo, or “funcho” as he is called in Portuguese. Funchal boasts of many attractions for the tourist, among them remarkable hotels and sport facilities and of leisure. The city is also rich in culture with I know it, the first cathedral of Portugal overseas and many other outstanding museums.   

  The wharf in form of horseshoe of Funchal invites to a visit, specially to the point the most extreme west. Happening through one old strength, the artificial breakwater or “pontinha” is arrived at. The most extreme point of the wharf, that excels right of downtown and it extends until the port, is also a place to dominate all the bay, and the houses characteristically painted. The port is also the center of restaurants and bars.
