Waiting for his Hot Dog - Golden Retriever

During a walk through the streets of Antwerp, Belgium I saw this lovely Golden Retriever and loved his face and expression. He sat in front of the beautiful house with a red door and windows which you can see in my comment.

The Golden Retriever is a breed of dog, historically developed as a gundog to retrieve shot waterfowl and upland game during hunting. As such they were bred to have a soft mouth to retrieve game undamaged and an instinctive love of water. Their intelligence and versatility sees them employed in a variety of roles including illegal drug detection, search and rescue, as hunting dogs and as guide dogs. They possess a friendly, eager-to-please demeanor, and are one of the most popular family dog breeds (by registration) in the world.
Golden Retrievers were first accepted for registration by the The Kennel Club (KC) of England in 1903, as Flat Coats - Golden.

Some variations do exist between the British type Golden Retrievers prevalent throughout Europe and Australia, and those of American lines and these differences are reflected in the breed standard. Its muzzle is wider and shorter, and its forehead is blockier. It has shorter legs, with a slightly deeper chest, and shorter tail. Its features make it generally heavier than the Canadian type. Males should be between 56–61 centimeters (22–24 in) at the withers and females slightly shorter at between 51–56 centimeters (20–22 in). Their weight, however, is not specified in the UK standard. The KC standard calls for a level topline and straight hindquarters without the slight rear angulation found in American lines. The eyes of the European type are noted for their roundness and darkness as contrasted with the triangular or slanted composition of their American counterparts. A Golden Retriever of British breeding can have a coat color of any shade of gold or cream; however, red or mahogany are not permissible colors. Originally cream was not an acceptable color in the UK standard; however, by 1936 the standard was revised to include cream. It was felt this exclusion was a mistake as the original "yellow" retrievers of the 19th century were lighter in color than the then current standard permitted. As with American lines, white is an unacceptable color in the show ring. The British KC standard is used in all countries with the exceptions of the US and Canada. Some breeders of this type in America may import their dogs to improve the temperament and health noted in those bloodlines.

As indicated by their name, their coat comes in light golden colors to dark golden colors.
The temperament of the Golden Retriever is a hallmark of the breed and is described in the standard as "kindly, friendly and confident".[10] They are not "one man dogs" and are generally equally amiable with both strangers and those familiar to them.[6] Their trusting, gentle disposition therefore makes them a poor guard dog.[15] Any form of unprovoked aggression or hostility towards either people, dogs or other animals, whether in the show ring or community, is completely unacceptable in a Golden Retriever and is not in keeping with the character of the breed and as such is considered a serious fault. Nor should a Golden Retriever be unduly timid or nervous.[6][14] The typical Golden Retriever is calm, naturally intelligent and biddable, with an exceptional eagerness to please

Während eines Spaziergangs durch die Strassen von Antwerpen, Belgien habe ich diesen wunderschönen Golden Retriever entdeckt. Er sah so niedlich aus mit dem roten Halstuch und hatte so einen treuen Blick ;-) .... er sass vor dem in meinem Kommentar zu sehenden Haus.

Der Golden Retriever gehört zu den mittelgroßen Hunderassen (bis 61 cm, 36 kg). Sein Körperbau ist harmonisch, wobei das Verhältnis von Körperlänge gemessen vom Brustkorb bis zur Schwanzwurzel zur Widerristhöhe etwa 10:8 beträgt. Er besitzt eine kräftige, trockene Muskulatur und einen gut entwickelten Knochenapparat, der ihn zu kraftvoller Bewegung befähigt.
Das Haar eines Golden Retriever ist glatt oder wellig, aber nicht gelockt, in den Farben gold oder creme. Das Fell hat eine dichte, wetterfeste Unterwolle. Der Gesichtsschädel ist ausdruckstark geformt und besitzt einen deutlichen Stop. Die Ohren sind mittelgroß und er besitzt ein stark entwickeltes, vollständiges Scherengebiss.

Der Golden Retriever ist ein intelligenter, freudig arbeitender Hund, dem auch extreme, nasskalte Witterungsbedingungen nichts ausmachen. Dem steht allerdings eine relativ starke Empfindlichkeit hinsichtlich hoher Temperaturen gegenüber. Grundsätzlich ist die Rasse ruhig, geduldig, aufmerksam und gilt als nicht aggressiv. Sein Schutztrieb ist im Vergleich zu anderen Hunderassen – wenn überhaupt – nur rudimentär entwickelt. Das unter Retriever-Haltern bekannte Sprichwort: „Ein Golden vertreibt keinen Einbrecher; stattdessen freut er sich über den Besuch und hilft jenem, die Wertsachen aus dem Haus zu tragen“ kennzeichnet die meisten Hunde dieser Art recht gut. Wie nahezu jede Hunderasse kann aber auch der nicht erzogene beziehungsweise nicht fachmännisch zur Jagd ausgebildete Golden Retriever zum Wildern oder Streunen neigen.

Die Haltung eines Golden Retrievers ist, wie die aller Jagdhunde, bewegungs- und trainingsintensiv. Unterforderte, in ihren Arbeitsanlagen nicht geförderte Hunde neigen dazu, unerwünschte Verhaltensweisen zu entwickeln. Deshalb ist es äußerst wichtig, eine über „normales Gassigehen“ hinausreichende Beschäftigung für Hund und Halter zu finden. Gut dazu geeignet sind die Fährtenarbeit, das Dummytraining, die Betätigung in einer Rettungshundestaffel oder einer Hundesportart, die etwas mit Nasenarbeit beziehungsweise Apportieren zu tun haben.

Der Golden Retriever braucht die Nähe zu seinem Rudel, den unmittelbaren Menschenanschluss und ist nicht für eine Zwingerhaltung geeignet. Berücksichtigt man sein Bedürfnis nach aktiver Betätigung, wird er jederzeit ein unproblematischer und angenehmer Hausgenosse sein. (Quelle: Wikipedia)
