            Tiago lives with his mother, step-father, brothers and sisters, in simple housing conditions on a small-holding which they take care of on the outskirts of the coastal town of Itanhaém, in the state of São Paulo, Brazil.

As with many of the children living with their families on the outskirts of the coastal tourist towns in Brazil, regular work is seldem found outside of the tourist season, so most underprivileged families make do with very little and survive under minimal conditions. Taking care of other people's properties is also a means of survival, escaping the heavy rental costs for such families in this country, where free accomodation is often part of the deal.

Tiago is a dedicated youngster and loves his surfing and skating with us at weekends when he spends most of his time at our Coexistence Centre, which is situated in the same neighbourhood. He is a pro-active kid and helps a great deal at the centre through his own initiative.
