Sardegna winter sky - a photo on Flickriver

Baunei, Ogliastra, Sardinia, Italy. After several days of incessant rainfall, snow, cloudy nights and heavy days at work, I was able to carve out some time for me and have the opportunity to go out to shoot the night sky. I decided to move towards the Supramonte of Baunei, a beautiful area not far away, about 25 minutes by car from Tortolì, but yet still warm despite the weather fairly hard during the deep winter nights. I took a detour from the Sardinia State Highway 125 (SS 125) to Perda Longa Natural Monument and passed a farm I stopped in a clearing near the road. Turned off the headlights of the car I could observe how the sky was already dark and the stars significantly numbered in the thousands, despite missed a couple of minutes to midnight and the lights of the nearby villages behind the heights.

But now the time and chances to capture the winter night sky is coming to an end and the constellation of Orion with the other dominant celestial bodies of the winter sky are gradually disappearing during the cold nights of March, to be replaced by their early setting westward and stable presence of Jupiter and Saturn, and as a watch-mechanical synchronization everything develops around a veiled Milky Way Galaxy, still shy and missing of its bright everlasting sidereal light.
