The new Sea Acres Rainforest Centre was officially opened in early September 2011 and is situated on Pacific Drive 4 km from the centre of Port Macquarie. The Rainforest Centre is a popular tourist destination attracting up to 50,000 visitors annually.

The Mid North Coast National Parks and Wildlife Service has moved to the new centre from previous rental offices in the Port Macquarie CBD and will make substantial rental cost savings as well as providing a ‘one stop shop’ for the public by co-locating administration and specialist staff at the Rainforest Centre.

The New Sea Acres Rainforest Centre was built at a cost of around $800,000 I am led to believe, with the bulk of the money coming via a grant from the former NSW Labour Government with the remainder contributed by the National Parks and Wildlife Service.
The impressive new building replaced the former Tourist Centre and Cafe which had well and truly reached its use by date.
The new centre will also provide more space for on site exhibits,an expanded cafe capability, and will enable a much greater diversity of programmes directed particularly at schools and large tourist groups.
