Long Exposure, Lone Cypress® - a photo on Flickriver

            This was later in the evening after the sun had set.  The exposure was about 20 seconds, which blurred the whizzing clouds and mystified the crashing waves.

The Lone Cypress is actually a registered trademark for the Pebble Beach Company.  Not sure how you trademark a living tree on the coast, but it's on private property and they have lots of moolah so I guess they can do whatever they want.  I hope they pay some royalties to God for actually creating their logo.  Ha!

I shot this with a Canon 5D; Canon 17-40mm lens; an ND filter, a 2-stop hard GND filter; and a partridge in a pear tree.  All my shots are single images, no blending or HDR (not that there's anything wrong with that), mostly because I have no clue how to do that kind of stuff.  I do all my lighting control via filters on the lens before the shot is taken.  It's the way I learned and it's all I know.  Well, okay, I do some minor brightness/contrast after the fact, but for the most part these are as-shot images.  The 5D does a great job of creating images that don't need much tweaking.  Hats off to the  Canon gods for making a great camera, and hats off to the real God for making such beautiful places.
