Ce buste en marbre noir, au Louvre depuis 1810, a été enregistré en 1824 comme provenant de la bibliothèque Mazarine, où se trouvaient depuis la Révolution des oeuvres saisies chez les aristocrates émigrés ou dans les résidences royales. L'état de conservation et la reprise du poli du marbre ont invité certains à y voir un travail italien du XVIe siècle. D'origine égyptienne, le dieu porte le calathos, mesure pour le grain symbole de fertilité.
