...at times life is much more like a trickle than a rush or flow and I seem to be caught up in an eddy. As wonderful as this little city is (and it really really is, probably in my top-5 worldwide) I've come to understand something I already knew. There are, in this life, 3 major portions that make up most people (as someone dear to me pointed out quite a while back, which someone dear to them pointed out and so it goes), and they are work-career, friends-hobbies, home-love-relationships. When you make a large change to one it's best if the other two are solid and things are usually fine. When you upset the balance to two at the same time things can seem remarkably difficult. And, when life delivers moments where all three are up in the air people often reach a point of "let's tear it all down and build it someplace new". Now many that know me well may have heard me speak of this in the past and it still rings true to me but as a traveler now I've come to know a tangent of this idea. When you come to a new place without at least one of those three portions to focus on or that's there to support you and fall back on.... well, it can feel very lonely. I've stopped here in Wellington because I really liked it and because I needed work and I'm even playing with the idea of staying much longer, but honestly I don't know... That wait-and-see-what-may-come-and-where-it-leads is a brilliant credo for the traveler and as I've learned it brings you into full focus of many possibilities that a 'plan' doesn't even glance sideways at. When you stop however, even for a time, a plan is good.... Unfortunately the bulk of my plan is make-a-bunch-of-money-as-quickly-as-possible-so-we-can-sally-forth-into-the-blue... good for the future but amorphous for the now.

I miss my guitars. And my modest collection of camera bits. And a few other "things". I miss many friends back in Seattle, and even miss NYC, Vienna, and Brisbane all of which I stopped in for about 3 weeks, which was long enough to JUST start to get comfy and think "hmmm this could be nice here", but I carried on intentionally so that I could find the place inside of me that was not only content but CRAVING to continue to wander and be rootless... I found that. The ironic part is not too terribly long after finding it I reached a point where money was a huge concern and again, as nice as this place is right here and now, I've no big career path due to my unknown time here, no network of friends already in place, and no partner alongside me to share the mystery with. In short, I'm here alone reinventing what I need to be happy. It is hugely challenging, amazing at times and altogehter something I risked and somewhat asked for at some point when striking out like this. I need a friend or two that knows me well but that takes time... and we've so little of it. Make the most.

All that said, I do have a couple new close friends and we all bitch together which is nice as. Like, it sure would be nice if it were a tad warmer. Is there I.T. work in the Bay of Islands?
