Park, trail and beach advocates celebrated the dedication of the Sara Wan Trailhead at Corral Canyon Park in Malibu on October 20, 2009. Sara Wan is a staunch supporter of public access to public lands up and down the California Coast, and has served on the California Coastal Commission for many years. The Sara Wan Trailhead offers a unique opportunity to experience the last undeveloped coastal canyon in Los Angeles County that flows freely to the ocean. A 2.5 mile loop trail climbs to the Puerco Canyon watershed divide providing spectacular views. It then descends onto an ancient marine terrace with native bunch grasses. Along this route, hikers pass through coastal sage scrub, coastal bluff native grassland, and the riparian corridor of Corral Creek with its alder, coast live oak, California sycamore, and willow trees. A pocket of coastal salt marsh is located where the creek meets the Pacific Coast Highway bridge. Corral Canyon Park is a project of the Santa Monica Mountains Conservancy and the Mountains Recreation and Conservation Authority.
