Stockholm - Sergels torg - a photo on Flickriver

            October morning in Stockholm city center. The Sergel square got its name from the scultpor, Sergel (1740-1814), whose workshop was once located north of the square. 
It would be an exaggeration, in my view, to claim that Sergels square is pretty or photogenic, but nevertheless... it is the centermost spot in Stockholm with a lot of things happening year round. Although almost empty on this photo, it's usually a rather crowded place.
The nicely patterned open square (Plattan) is, traditionally, the scene for a lot of public events like; political protests and manifestations, music playing, and not to forget the often overcrowded festivals for  Swedish sports teams that have won a Gold in international sports events.

On more negative notes, the Plattan is one of Stockholm's main scenes for narcotics commerce and related crimes. It should however be emphasized that a normal and normally intelligent person, not seeking those things, has every reason to feel safe here.

I put this photo up mainly for Stockholm visitors or those interested in the city for other reasons. The photographer happens to belong to both categories! He is a former resident and visits Stockholm at least every year. Stockholm is the best!
