Worth the wait

            Ex-LMS Black Five, 45379 was brought back to steam again on 28th August this year, 45 years since she was withdrawn and dispatched to Barry Island scrap yard, in theory to be turned in yet more pots, pans and razor blades.  The miracle of Barry Island is well documented elsewhere, but suffice it to say that for several hundred engines, the intended script wasn't followed and they lived to hopefully steam another day.  45 years is a long time to wait, but the team at the Mid-Hants railway have performed a marvelous job of resurrecting her, she looks as good as the day she first left the Newcastle factory she was built in, back in 1937.  Here she is double headed with another survivor of Barry Island, West Country pacific, 34007, Wadebridge.  She is another engine that I am very fond of having watched her progress back to steam a few years ago now on the Bodmin & Wenford railway.
