Located at the northern tip of Hokkaido,  Rishiri and Rebun are the 2 islands in the Sea of Japan. 

Rishiri, dominated by the volcano Rishiri-fuji-zan, is separated by a 10 km stretch of water from Rebun, which is dominated by the much lower Rebundake. Both islands are rich in alpine flora which are normally found at the much higher ground and mountain areas.
