Park Avenue West Coin Op - a photo on Flickriver

            Another one from the place with the jukebox.

The owner and a friend of his were standing outside the place when pinkie pulled over and we leapt out to shoot the sign. I was promptly asked by the friend why I was taking pictures. Sigh. I hate that. I always hear a bit of accusation and challenge in the tone. So I nervously put on my friendly act (hey, I'm working on getting over a lifetime of shyness - it's always something I have to fake at first before I can relax) and told the gentlemen that we love old signs, and vintage yadda yadda ... (meanwhile pinkie strides right into the place and starts shooting Polaroids hither and yon) 

The friend seemed to continue to regard me a mite suspiciously, but the owner! The owner, Mike Baith, warmed instantly to letting us take photos. He turned out to be the nicest guy I'd met in a long while. He put me right at ease, ushered me in, told me he was (justifiably, in my opinion) proud of how he'd kept pretty much everything original to the way it looked when it opened, (I don't know when, but I'll guess early '70s. I think I remember him saying he bought it in 1980.) and in good shape. It really is shiny and stylin' in there.

One look at the shiny green modernist chairs and the shiny orange walls and I was in love. I took a lot of pictures in there. 

If I lived in Mansfield and needed a laundromat, I'd go there exclusively. Friendly owner, great decor, a jukebox, a snack machine, a pop machine, and a vintage Ms. Pac-Man. (He seemed proud of that too, as he should be.) 

I gave him my moo card and told him to watch this space - if you're reading this Mr. Baith, I really appreciate your friendliness, and your laundromat is very cool.
