Returning To Ladakh Time And Again - a photo on Flickriver

“I used to go around visiting different villages on different horses, during those old days.
It was quite interesting to meet local people in traditional dress and costumes, whenever they met me.
Because of the kindness of the local people and their willingness to practice, I have been returning to Ladakh time and again to give them some encouragement and inspiration.
I am also hoping that this rare Himalayan culture that has survived so many wars and natural disasters will continue to stay alive, against the threats of modernization and influences from the outside world.”

This is a view of Chemde Monastery (Chemrey Gompa) which stands on the Ladakhi Himalayan hills along River Sindh (Indus).
It was shot early in the morning with an amazing light as the sun was already quite bright.
This Buddhist monastery built in 1664, belongs to the Drugpa monastic order and was founded by the Lama Tagsang Raschen and dedicated to King Sengge Namgyal.
