Wilborn Temple (COGIC) borders on Jay, South Swan and Lancaster Streets. It is an 1887 brownstone building in the shadow of the Empire State Plaza.

Wilborn Temple was born during the peak of the Black Migration from the South to the North of the country (1930s).

At that time, Albany had only two prominent (black) churches, Israel African Methodist Episcopal and Morning Star Missionary Baptist. Neither of these churches provided the “worship experience” that these new arrivals were familiar with. When Louis W. Parson arrived in Albany, he found a group of worshipers at 40 Franklin Street

In 1949, the church received the New York State Corporation charter as the First Church of God in Christ. The building former home of the Congregation Beth Emeth (House of Truth), located at Lancaster and South Swan Streets in Albany was build in 1887. It is considered to be one of the few surviving 19th-century synagogues in the United States. The architect was Adolph Fleischman, with Isaac Perry. The building is in Richardson Romanesque style.
