Last Friday I spent the night at the Grandview Campground in the White Mountain region of the Inyo National Forest. I knew it was going to be a new moon and I just had to get out and shoot the Milky Way over it. This campground is also designated as a "Dark Sky" campground, which means that the stargazers would be out in full force. The campground was full when I arrived but we found some folks that were willing to share their camping spot. The sites here are huge and spaced out quite nicely. During my search for a campsite I passed a fellow who had a telescope so big that I mistook it for a porta-pottie and stopped to take a leak. Luckily I was fortunate enough to have some dramatic weather during my visit making the daytime photography much more interesting. I made this photo just off the discovery loop in the Schulman Grove. It was an obvious decision even during the time of capture that this would be a monotone style photo with the scattered dramatic clouds as a backdrop which would showcase the intricate details in the trees trunks.

Not So Hot Tip Of The Day:
I have recently discovered that I have been banned from the explore page because of my use of an obtrusive watermark.
I had stopped using the watermark before I found out because they are not allowed in 500px and I also want to be able to print that same file. After 4 months with the watermark removed I was finally explored. If you are using a watermark that can be detected by the explore algorithm than you might want to remove them, just until the explore period is over, that is if you enjoy having your photo explored. ;(
Apparently frames and logos are a no-no. Who knew?
