Avia S-199 Fighter - improved version

You might be wondering; why did I make a Nazi fighter (the Bf-109) with the markings of the Israeli Air Force?

Well, it´s a very curious story

During the Second World War, the main Czechoslovakian Fighter Factory, Avia, was converted to build the German Bf-109G fighter.
However when the war ended, the Czechs decided to resume production of this aircraft for their own Air Force. Unfortunately, they lacked the powerful Daimler Benz engine to propel the plane. An alternative solution was to use the Junkers Jumo engine, the same power plant that propelled the Heinkel He-111 bomber.
The solution was instead a curse for the plane, because there´s a huge difference between a fighter engine built for speed and a bomber engine built for power; the new fighter, the Avia S-199 was slower than the Bf-109G and had considerable handling problems due to the extra weight of the engine. Since the engine couldn´t mount a Cannon in a Motorkanone configuration, two 20mm cannons were mounted instead in gondolas under the wings.
These however produced extra drag and reduced maneuverability, further complicating the plane´s problems. Two MG-131 13,2mm machine guns were also mounted over the engine but still, these guns had problems with the engine synchronization so it wasn´t uncommon for some planes to shot their own propellers when firing the guns...

And what about Israel?
Well, in 1948 Israel became an Independent Nation and an Arms Embargo was immediately put on effect. Israel Agents managed to acquire 25 Avia S-199 from Czechoslovakia for the Air Force, becoming the first Jewish Fighter Aircraft.
The problems with the plane however didn´t stop, many being lost due to inexperience of the operators, lack of parts and the overall problems of the Airframe. Still 101 Squadron became the first operational Israeli Fighter Squadron and just a few days after becoming operational, they shot down 2 Egyptian C-47s, which were operated as bombers.

Amazingly, some Israeli pilots flying the Avia S-199 shot down Egyptian Spitfire’s during those days. Quite ironic I should say...

About the model:
The model features retractable landing gear and access to the cockpit. The plane features the old canopy for the pilot, some planes were improved with a sliding canopy later. When the wheels retract into the wings, they force the wing to adopt the typical angle of Bf-109, which was slightly upward. I shall make a video later to show that.
The engine, being much larger and less aerodynamic was easier to make than some previous designs.
