Creepy School House at Vulture Mine - a photo on Flickriver

            Saturday, 5/30, RightBrainPhotography, SquareOnePhotography, scmiller1, and I had our second photographic outing together at Vulture Mine.  It was epic. 

Strobist info: one Canon 580EX II flash and six Canon 550EX flash units used on this one. All were zoomed at the 35mm setting. Two of the 550EX units were outside on light stands about 10 feet high. They were fired with Pocket Wizards. Both were gelled with lagoon blue cellophane and fired at full power. One faced the right exterior wall and the other faced the building entrance. Inside, the 580EX II was the master flash on a long TTL cord. It fired four 550EX flashes inside. All speedlites inside the house were fired at full power and had CTO (color temperature orange) gels over them. I fired my Canon 5D that controlled the Pocket Wizards for the exterior lights. RightBrainPhotography fired his 30D immediately afterward to trip the five interior flash units. 

This was great fun. But it requires a lot of setup and is not for the photographer in a great hurry. Vulture Mine is not for the faint of heart, either. There are plenty of things to trip over in the dark and lots of desert shrubbery that wreak havoc on your ankles.  We had a close encounter with a rattler, and there was a beehive inside this building that we had to avoid while we set up five speedlites. But it is a great place to photograph.
