As a reporter in Washington D.C., covering the First Ladies was a bigger part of Hyde’s job than most fashion columnists. Rosalyn Carter was reluctant to discuss her attire, so Hyde sought information directly from the designers who dressed her. This daywear sketch was probably created by Dominic Rompollo, who also designed a cloak to be worn over Mrs. Carter’s inaugural gown.
