The crown of winter - a photo on Flickriver

            This group of spruces reminds me of a crown covered with winter crystals. Research has shown that such groups are in fact one individual. The pressure from the snow makes the lower branches keep close contact with the ground and they can then develop roots. When the snow and the harsh climate eventually crush the trees, the branches grow up to new tree trunks
