優雅的背後竟有一個有夠鄉土的俗名：牛屎鳥仔-農業時代的水牛應該是再熟悉不過的，而水牛的排遺，也就是俗稱的「牛糞」，而牠就是喜歡在牛屎中找蟲吃。
台灣有留鳥族群，體形屬纖細瘦長型，常見於河溪邊、湖邊、水田、水渠等處地面走動覓食，尾羽細長，停棲時不停的擺動尾羽，飛行時呈波浪狀，並發「唧唧」聲。
