NO 28: VINTAGE 1925 INDIAN SCOUT MOTORCYCLE ENGINE

Originally introduced in 1920, this is a 1925 Indian Model G, more commonly known as a Scout - 596cc (37cubic inches). The gearbox is 3-speed and is bolted to the back of the motor making it almost a 'unit construction' engine. Primary drive is through a set of helical gears, all well advanced for it's time. Schebler carburettor and Splitdorf electrics.

This is the same type of engine that took Burt Monro of New Zealand to 205.67 mph (Bored out to 950 cc - 58 cu in). There is a movie that was released in 2005 about his speed attempts:-
