Eastern Willet Tringa Catoptrophorus semipalmatus

PB01757418921-copycrwWillet Quickly identified by it's bright black-and-white flashing wings, that are only visible in flight. Otherwise it's a bird of muted coloring or grayish/beige and remains remains and inconspicuous. It eats aquatic insects, and worms, small crabs, and small mollusks and fish along the shore and mud flats. They also eat some grasses and seeds. They're territorial and will noisily chase off intruders, near their nests. The female lays her eggs in a ground depression or grass. After sharing the duty of incubating 4 eggs, the male will stay behind after the chicks are about 3 weeks, but the female fies the coop so to speak.
