Northern Flying Squirrel - a photo on Flickriver

            Sitting around the campfire at Killbear is a very common sight. Once the sun sets, most people have a fire lit, a hot (or cold) drink in hand, and some great conversation. Another thing that is very common at this time is the noises that come from the surrounding forest. For years I have wondered about this chirping in the trees and this year I was determined to find out what animal it was coming from. I always thought they were birds but once I got him in the light from the flashlight, I was very surprised! This is a Northern Flying squirrel and is the first one I have ever seen, let alone photograph. He posed nicely for us until Katie told me that he probably doesn’t appreciate having a light shining in his face. I took a few shots that I was happy with and then we went back to the fire and I looked at the pics on my camera with a smile on my face.
