Autumn Tundra in the North Ogilvies - a photo on Flickriver

            This is a morning view of autumn colours on the tundra in the North Ogilvie Mountains, a few hundred kliks south of the Arctic Circle in the northern Yukon. Old, eroded limetones and untouched by recent glaciation, they are my favourite mountains, though I love all mountains.  Not seen here, the limestones erode differently, causing each mountain to have a distinctly separate colour and tone than its neigbour. They also erode into strangely sculpted designs called "castellations", that indeed do remind one of old castles. The range can be accessed from the Dempster Highway.

Not Brandy this time, the white fluffy things in the foreground are willow catkins and are the main food of ptarmigan during the winter months, just in case you wanted to know:)
