Early Morning Krakow - a photo on Flickriver

            There is funny story behind this picture.

Our second day in Krakow we were going to visit Auschwitz so it meant an early start. We also wanted to get some photos of the Market Square before the rest of the city was up and about. 

We decided to get up around 05:30 as the Taxi to Auschwitz was picking us up at 08:00 outside the hotel. Because the breakfast was so expensive in the hotel we had spied a McDonald's just off the Market Square the night before and we knew it   opened at 07:00  

After we had taken our photos we made our way to McDonald's only to find it was not open due to something that had gone wrong in the night!! So we tried to find somewhere open for breakfast in the hour we had before the taxi arrived. Either there were no cafes open at 7am or we did not find one (This is where I took the shot above wandering down a side street looking for a cafe).

I knew back in my hotel room I had a sandwich I had bought at Liverpool airport the day before to eat on the plane but never did. And it was in my rooms drinks fridge. I ran back up to my room and put it in my backpack along with a big bottle of water as we knew it was going to be a really hot day.

Best laid plans and all that comes to mind here. On arriving at Auschwitz, I put the backpack on, only to be told by the taxi driver that no backpacks were allowed in the camp and neither could you eat any food unless you could prove you were diabetic! 

So me and my brother never did get to share my 24 hour old cheese sandwich.....

Make all the plans you like, but sometimes God just laughs at you out loud.....
