080126-0129_Halpha_sun_wattie - a photo on Flickriver

            Solar prominences 2008, January, 26th, 0129 hours UT. 
Solarscope 60 H-alpha filter, plus a blocking filter, on an Orion 80ED telescope.
Atik monochrome camera. Photographed from Auckland, New Zealand. 
Astronomical seeing was poor - the sun was "boiling" severely in the hot summer atmosphere.

Two different exposures (0.001 and 0.03 sec) were combined in Photoshop to show solar disc and chromosphere simultaneously, and then colourised (a version of HDR). (No stacking: the two best images were chosen from two 3 minute sequences.) North is down (as it looks from the southern hemisphere!)
