Newton Heath Manchester 21st June 1968

            A view of Newton Heath shed south yard with no engines in view, maybe one in the centre distance, but otherwise full of interest. 

Left to right: the large Braithwaite water tank, turntable with makeshift electrification loading gauge, Cenotaph coaling tower & ash plant - 2 ash plants in fact. The Manchester Victoria-Middleton Junction-Rochdale line runs left to right from the distant overbridge behind the coaling tower. The 12T wagons would have been used to carry away the copious amounts of ash.
