Arezzo - Campanilismo - Basilica di San Francesco

            La Basilica di San Francesco di è un'importante chiesa di Arezzo, famosa soprattutto per le Storie della Vera Croce, un ciclo di affreschi di Piero della Francesca presenti nella cappella.

La Basilica è storicamente la seconda chiesa di Arezzo. La prima era fuori dalle mura e doveva essere una chiesa grande per contenere la Grande Croce francescana e una tavola della Maestà di (Guido da Siena). La prima fu distrutta per motivi di difesa e così la comunità di Arezzo chiese se la seconda potesse essere costruita dentro le mura (1290). La Maestà fu spostata nella nuova chiesa e successivamente asportata nel (1863) per farne un pezzo da museo.
