Tu, oh donna, sola, trascurata,
figlia di una fertile terra calpestata.
Scarno hai il viso, segnato da quelle
lunghe e perfide fatiche che quella terra
senza sorte ha profondamente inciso.

Sofferenti le tue mani ma mai ti lamenti,
creano, in quei preziosi panni bianchi
pizzi, ricami e preziosi merletti,
agli occhi di tutti perfetti.
Scontano ancora un debito atavico
di una terra martoriata, desolata, assetata
dal sudore di uomini stanchi, mediterranei.

Lucidi e trasparenti furono i tuoi occhi,
neri e fulgidi i tuoi oggi candidi capelli.
Adesso da fievoli luci ed ombre oggi ti circondi,
rimani lontana da quella che fu luce calda ed assolata
che ti accompagnò nella tua arte oramai abbandonata.

You, oh woman, alone, neglected,
daughter of a fertile trampled land.
Your face is gaunt, marked by those
long and perfidious toils that land
without fate has profoundly affected.

Your hands suffer but you never complain,
they create, in those precious white cloths
lace, embroidery and precious lace,
in everyone's eyes perfect.
They are still paying off an atavistic debt
of a tortured, desolate, thirsty land
from the sweat of tired, Mediterranean men.

Shiny and transparent were your eyes,
your white hair is black and shining today.
Now you are surrounded by feeble lights and shadows today,
stay away from what used to be warm and sunny light
who accompanied you in your now abandoned art.
